Everything I Have is Yours

The father tells the Prodigal Sons in the parable all that I have is yours.

Can you imagine the gift the father is giving his son. He even proved it by giving his younger son everything he asked for, knowing he would waste it.

If the parable tells us that the father is willing to give anything and everything, how much more so our heavenly Father. He wants to bestow upon us all that He gave to his Son as we read Scripture:

“Everything that the Father has is mine;

for this reason I told you

that he will take from what is mine

and declare it to you.”

Jesus receives everything from the Father and then gives it all to us. What else would we want?

Yet, many Christians reject what God offers since it costs us the one thing we do not want to give.

Honor Him with all our heart, mind and soul.

Many Christians follow their own desires and yearnings, not realizing they will never satisfy. Only God satisfies our deepest longing:

To be in friendship with our Father, Our Creator,

and source of our fulfillment.

Children, as we know, rebel against their parents, yet their parents are not oppressing their child, but protecting them from meaningless relationships and activities.

Children, however, test the waters and sometimes run away as did the Prodigal Son. Many, as did the Prodigal Son prefer to live, indulging in the pleasure and passions of life, only to find themselves empty and unwanted.

Nothing drains us as does meaninglessness and rejection. Empty, we seek redemption. Yet redemption does not come from powers and possessions. They merely distract us from our true desire:

Union with another gives us meaning!

We are made to bond with another, as in marriage. Marriage is the best symbol of Trinity. Man and Woman become one yet are two. Their union also produces life not just within their hearts, but children, the expression of their love.

Trinity Sunday reveals that through the love of the   Father and Son, the Spirit adopts us as sons and       daughters of the Father Who willingly gives us everything He has, his Son. Jesus unites Himself to us so we may partake in his friendship with the Father, through the love of the Holy Spirit.
